About metoclopramide

Metoclopramide is an anti-sickness medicine and is used to help stop you feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) including:

– After treatment for cancer, such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy
– Migraine-related sickness
– Nausea post-operation
– Palliative, end of life care

It is only available with a prescription.

For migraines, you can also get metoclopramide combined with a painkiller with a prescription.

 

Key information

 

Metoclopramide is taken normally for up to 5 days.
Drowsiness and diarrhoea are the most common side effects.
Drinking alcohol with metoclopramide should be avoided, as it will make you feel drowsy.
